The Saturnino is the smaller counterpart to the Saturno the same fundamental concept of a crystal ring and a sphere balanced together by their own weight, with no mechanical connection, in a more intimate scale. The Saturnino Amber pairs a clear crystal ring with an amber craquelé sphere the warm golden sphere resting within the transparent ring, held in place only by gravity and the precise calibration of the two elements' weights. Ring diameter 20 cm, sphere diameter 10 cm, total 2 kg of pure crystal. The amber sphere has a craquelé surface a network of fine internal fracture lines created during the blowing process by thermal shock which gives the amber crystal a complex, textured quality: the warm color lit from within by the fracture lines that scatter light differently from every angle. When the amber sphere is removed and placed upright, it functions as a small spherical flower vase. The clear ring becomes a circular crystal sculpture in its own right. Each crystal is mouth-blown into an original cast iron mould from a historic Italian glassware workshop active since 1945 each shape comes to life through a single breath.
